ABOUT
Discover the Artist Behind the Canvas
I have always loved art and creating beauty around me. I am inspired by interiors, cooking, nature, and beautiful spaces. I’m a mum to three grown sons, all of whom are very artistic, and our home has always been filled with creativity, music, and imagination.
When my children were young, we lived in Canada for six years. During that time, the University of Saskatoon came to our town to teach fine arts. I attended for a couple of years, and this is where my true love for painting began. It quickly grew into a passion, and I still paint as often as I can. I believe that every painting teaches you something new, which is deeply satisfying.
Back in South Africa, I became a student of the very talented Olga Hoffman, who taught us so much about mixing beautiful colours, texture, and developing a painterly voice. Before Covid, I had a little gallery in George where I combined my artwork with antiques. Later, I opened an interior shop, which was also a lovely complement to my art. I have taken part in several exhibitions and art festivals, including the Oudtshoorn Karoo Kunsfees.
I mostly work in oils on canvas, but recently I have enjoyed exploring florals in acrylics as well. I like to challenge myself creatively, so I paint a variety of subjects — florals, seascapes, still life and portraits — and each offers its own joy and growth.
At the moment, we are living in the beautiful coastal town of Mossel Bay on the Garden Route of South Africa. My studio overlooks the ocean, and with beautiful music playing while I work, I truly couldn’t be happier. Creating art in this setting fills me with gratitude and inspiration every single day.
I continue to enjoy taking workshops and online courses, because there is always something new to learn — and that, for me, is one of the greatest joys of being an artist.
